Like Boticelli's Venus, Vera emerges from watery
depths, her hair entwined with shells.
While Vera has always lived slightly in the shadow
of her more famous sister, when it came to a choice of fountains for
a new Italianate pond in the late Geoff Hamilton's Barnsdale Gardens,
Vera was a natural choice. Along with three other Lily's ladies, Myrtle,
Rosie Lee and Dolores
they are each in the corner of a deep cross-shaped italianate pond.
And they look spectacular.
HOW IS VERA CAST?
Vera de Milo has a thread in the bottom of each leg
so she can be fixed to a stone base or plinth. She is cast in bronze
resin and can be finished with either a polished bronze or verdigris
patina.
